Beppe clapped his little hands as the bright yellow bus rolled into view. His sister Nina held his tiny hand, guiding him aboard. The bus had big, shiny wheels, and they made a fun sound as they went round and round. “The wheels on the bus go round and round!” Nina sang, and Beppe giggled, swaying to the music. Beppe looked out the window and saw the trees. “Swish, swish, swish!” Nina said, pointing at the branches moving in the wind. Beppe laughed and tapped the window with his fingers. Inside the bus, Nina found a button. “Beep, beep, beep!” she said, pretending to press it. Beppe joined in, making cheerful little noises. The washing machine and dryer was very scary to him because he had never seen one before. His dog Luna was sweet and friendly. All of the food is very different. He didn't like ice cream or cake but he loved spaghetti and pizza. Nik was both excited and sad at bedtime. He's never had a room or a bed to himself so it was a little scary. His new mom stayed with him until he was ready for sleep. As he lied there alone, looking at the stars in the sky, he wasn't scared anymore because he knew his family in Haiti was looking at the same stars.

Daniel even got to try steering the boat under Dad's watchful eye. Audrey, meanwhile, kept a lookout for marine life, excitedly pointing out every passing bird and fish. As the sun began to set, painting the sky in fiery hues of orange and pink, they headed back to shore.
