Great Sioux War of 1876

John Jr and Yuēhàn were playing in the park when they stumbled upon an old book. The book was about a war called the Great Sioux War of 1876. They had never heard of it before and decided to learn more. They took the book home and started reading. They were excited to uncover the secrets of this forgotten war.

John Jr and Yuēhàn learned that the Great Sioux War of 1876 was a series of battles and negotiations. It happened between 1876 and 1877. The war was between the Lakota Sioux and Northern Cheyenne against the United States. The US wanted to take over the Black Hills because gold was found there. The Native Americans refused to give up their land.

The US government wanted the Black Hills because of the gold. Settlers started moving onto Native American lands. The Sioux and Cheyenne did not want to give up their homes. This caused tension and eventually led to the war. John Jr and Yuēhàn were amazed by the bravery of the Native Americans.

John Jr told Yuēhàn about a famous battle in the war. It was called the Battle of the Little Bighorn. The battle was a big defeat for the US forces. It happened on June 25-26, 1876. The Native Americans won the battle, which was also known as Custer's Last Stand.
